Forms flocks of up to 40 birds. Feeds on fallen grass seeds or half-ripe seeds plucked from grass stems. Also insects. Drinks frequently.

Found in open forests, woodlands with grassy understorey and nearby water. Farmland, parks, gardens with low scrubby plants.
