Actively defends feeding area. Forages at all strata levels in trees and shrubs, usually in mixed flocks. Feeds mostly on nectar, also insects. Noted for its pleasant, melodious, warbled, metallic notes.

Found in varied habitats. Understorey along watercourses, woodlands, edge of mangroves, heathlands, mulga and spinifex scrub, edges of tropical rainforests.
