If disturbed, birds usually run into undergrowth or, occasionally, bursting-leaping, heavy flight into tree cover. Pairs often seen at their large incubating mound. Ground foraging for insects, native fruits and seeds.

Found in damp, warm coastal forests, woodlands, parks and gardens.
